Having trouble posting to the blog so I'll do it this way. Had two days at home. Half a day was spent with the insurance people. Managed to get another 60+ feet of track laid. Only about 45' left to close the first loop. It'll probably be at least three weeks before I get a chance to do anymore. Didn't get any pictures. I used every minute I had laying track. Till next time. Reply to this

It depends on the area. If the gound is relatively level and clear, then I just run over it several times with the mower. I also have a small grader blade I made that I use to smooth things out. Then lay the track directly on the ground. I then pile sand on the track and then pull the track up through the sand. I tamp the sand under the ties and then wet the sand down. In some places I have to cut the area down with a shovel, high spots, and fill in spots that are very low. Then lay the track as before. A couple of good rains and the sand gets almost like concrete. In some low spots I can prop the track up with extra ties, rocks, whatever is handy, and then fill with sand. Once all the track is leveled and settled, I will add gravel ballast. The track I have down so far has not moved or settled at all. There have been only a couple of spots that I have had to add more sand or relevel. We'll see how it works in the long run and modify techniques to suit. Reply to this
